A "BIG ROLLIE"

This was all my sweet soon-to-be three year old was requesting for his birthday. On a few occasions, he also mentioned something about a purple present. Regardless, such simple desires could certainly be fulfilled. The Bob the Builder toy was inexpensive and could certainly be wrapped in purple paper.

In years to come, I am sure that there will be hints at presents like stereo systems, video games, sports equipment and maybe even a car. There may be times when we cannot afford the special requests. Or, occasions when regardless of budget, we will not want to give extravagantly. We have a child to raise, not to spoil.

Keeping this in mind, I want to cherish this time when my son is still innocent and his hopes are neither greedy nor impulsive. He knows nothing of this world's system that associates cost with value. There was no need to tell him that his wish list was too long or impractical. We didn't have to guide him or steer him. There was a perfectness in his tiny voice expressing this hope for a "big Rollie". It made us want to give it to him, knowing that his heart was so genuine.

(Witnessing the amazing innocence and faith that kids have makes you understand our Heavenly Father more when it is mentioned that we are to be like little children- "Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it", Mark 10:15 He wants to bless us, especially when we come to Him in such a way as this!)

Grant had such a fun birthday party with a few little friends. Cake, ice cream, giggles, smiles, jumping on the trampoline, going down the slide (whee!), pictures, presents, tired eyes, and sad goodbyes. Dean "gave" him his big Rollie in purple paper and our big boy couldn't have been happier.
